Sparking A Revolution in Information Storage

Battelle researchers built the first compact disc prototype. A desire for a better hi-fi system was the catalyst for researchers at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, managed by Battelle for the U.S. Department of Energy, to outline an entire system of features for compact discs. These concepts went on to have a significant impact not only on the sound quality and shelf life of music and videos but also on the growth and development of the computer industry.
